U10 Boys Lightning Premiership

It’s been a big year for the under 10 Boys Black team, and for the last round the boys were pretty keen to put everything they had into finishing the year strongly with a strong chance of winning a flag for the club.

We headed off to Bulleen early under a threatening sky and increasing wind.
Unlike a lot of games this year, the boys were off the mark early and an early win against Nth Brunswick, followed up with a strong game over Fitzroy 3 that  put us in the prime position to make the final.
We followed with a big win over Kew Rovers to go into the final against Fitzroy 2 – one of the few teams to have really challenged us this year.

The final was an epic struggle as both teams battled windy conditions, rugby like scrums and intense tackling pressure in an attempt to get a score on the board.  In the end, we prevailed by the smallest of margins over a very strong opponent.  It was a fantastic team effort with good skills, strong running and great tacking by everyone, and all the boys contributed to a memorable morning of football.

The celebrations were a highlight as the team song was sung many a time with gusto.

Thanks to all the efforts of the parents to make it a fun morning, providing shelter, BBQ, cakes, drinks and lots of cheering.

Big thanks to Darren & Donna for their tireless co-ordniation all year and to Steve for his assistant coaching role. Also to Tim & Liz, Belinda, goal & boundary umpires, scorers and timekeepers (and of course the umpires escorts) for a great year.

See you back next year to defend our flag.

Go Tige’s.
